I was born in 1955 in the small southern Oklahoma town of Marietta to British parents. The family returned to the UK in 1959 where I have lived ever since. I distinctly remember my cousins mocking my southern drawl – hence I lost it pretty quickly.
I am married with two sons and a dog and live in Hertfordshire.
Notable experiences include:-
Being present at the birth of both sons. My wife was there too.
Piloting a small aeroplane solo.
Piloting a large aeroplane (RAF Nimrod) not solo.
Falling off a 16.2 hand three-quarter bred horse at full gallop and landing in a field of cabbages. I owe my life to a cabbage.
Being put into a First World War British soldier’s uniform and being blown up in a trench as part of the Channel 4 drama-docu, “Britain’s Boy Soldiers”.
Acceptance of first book by Pen & Sword and trying to sound cool when the publisher told me “New writer – we can only advance a thousand” when all I wanted to do was dance around and cheer.
Completing the Three Peaks Challenge.
I started writing because I love to consider the “what ifs”. Combine this with my enjoyment of fantasy and science fiction and I find the way to tell my stories and subtly express my belief in equality and diversity is by writing fiction.
I enjoy fell walking, exploring historic sites and ferreting out little known historic facts.
